Support for Internet Explorer for Mac ends 12/31. Happy new year, losers!

23 Dec

From Redmondmag.com:

Microsoft reaffirmed this week that, with the stroke of midnight on Dec. 31, Apple Mac versions of Internet Explorer will no longer be supported.

“In accordance with published support lifecycle policies, Microsoft will end support for Internet Explorer for Mac on Dec. 31, 2005, and will provide no further security or performance updates,” according to statements on the Redmond giant’s Web site. Hotfix support is no longer available for Mac IE either.

Additionally, as of Jan. 31, 2006, Internet Explorer for the Mac will no longer be available for download from Mactopia, Microsoft’s Mac Web site. The company recommends that Mac IE users migrate to more recent browsers such as Apple’s Safari.

Mneh. Not that I use IE on my iBook, but it’s nice to have options, innit? Especially because a significant number of Web sites only support IE. Including some of Microsoft’s.

(The style guidelines at work forbid me from making a possessive out of a company’s name. So writing “Microsoft’s” like that gives me a thrill of excitement and fear. I AM TEH REBEL.)
