13th Age at OrcaCon 2017, Jan. 13-15

11 Jan

Going to OrcaCon in Everett this weekend? Want to play 13th Age RPG? You can see all of the game sessions here.

For my part, I’ll run a 3-hour demo on Sunday from 10 AM to 1 PM, plus two adventures that I designed:

temple-of-the-sun-cabal-cover_350Temple of the Sun Cabal
(Friday, 7:00 PM – Midnight)

The hunt for a missing vampire leads you to a volcanic island occupied by fanatical sun cultists. Their plan: sacrifice the vampire in a ritual to summon and control a long-lost flying temple to the sun gods—and use its power to “purify” the Dragon Empire by exterminating all other religions! Can you prevent the dawn of a terrifying new age, ruled by a ruthless theocracy of fire?

No experience is necessary to play this 13th Age RPG adventure, and level 4 pre-generated characters are provided. (Feel free to bring your own, though!)

Suggested age range is Everyone 6+.
No experience required; will teach rules to new players.
Maximum number of players is 6.

(Saturday, 11:30 AM – 4:30 PM)

A dwarven airship has crashed in the magic-blasted wastelands of Midgard’s west, with a stolen magical artifact on board. Evade, outwit, or out-fight undead goblins, magic abominations, and rival adventurers to reach the prize!

Gen Con 2016: Where to Find Me

22 Jul

GenCon2016It’s convention season again, and Gen Con Indy is right around the corner. If you see me, say hi! If you’re with the media, I’ll gladly put my PR hat on and help you wrangle interviews with folks from Pelgrane Press and Kobold Press.

This year is especially exciting for me, because the 13th Age Game Master’s Screen & Resource Book, which I co-wrote with Cal Moore, is nominated for an ENnie award. It would be very cool to win, but I’m proud just to be on the slate of nominees.

Here’s where you can find me at the con, when I’m not at Pelgrane Press booth #419:

Gen Con: Where You Can Find Me, and What’s In My Backpack

26 Jul

Gen Con 2015Gen Con starts in just a few days. Hooray! Also, aiyee!

I’m on multiple panels this year, and will cover a shift at the Kobold Press booth (#2639) Saturday morning. The rest of the time you’ll find me at the Pelgrane Press booth (#609), running around the convention center doing PR stuff, or — fingers crossed — actually gaming at least once.

Here’s my panel schedule — all 13th Age panels are in the Crowne Plaza hotel, room Pennsylvania Station B:

Thursday
11:00 AM -SEM1568531: 13th Age Adventure Design Workshop

Over on Facebook, Bill Collins listed the contents of his backpack, and asked what his fellow Gen Con attendees were packing for the trip. Here’s my Gen Con travel kit:
  • Laptop computer
  • Device cables in a Grid-It organizer
  • Two fully-charged device chargers
  • Sharpie pens and a pencil
  • A clean handkerchief
  • Super absorbent camping towels from REI
  • Spry peppermint gum
  • Extra lip balm
  • Dental floss
  • Moist wipes
  • Travel snacks
  • Airborne
  • Nexus 7 tablet with roleplaying game PDFs loaded
  • Business cards
  • Index cards
  • iPhone tripod
  • Small bag of dice
That’s what I’m bringing on the plane. When I’m on the show floor, I might pare this down considerably.
Ah, who am I kidding? WHAT IF I NEED DENTAL FLOSS AND DON’T HAVE IT.
